The Cosmetics Industry
The cosmetic industry covers a wide scope of product types designed for one similar function - that is, the enhancement of the body, either in terms of look or odour. The modern cosmetic market consists of lotions, facial powders, scents, eye and facial make-up, lipstick, hair colours and sprays, and a lot more than one can imagine. This superabundance is a concrete indication of the human being's endless preference over beauty. The interesting concept of applying bodily decorations can be rooted back to the earlier centuries. The earliest cosmetics are believed to have existed around 3000 BC in the Ancient Egypt. Today, majority of the female population is observing the practice of beautifying one's self with the use of cosmetic products, particularly make-up, especially when going to public places. Aesthetic experts and trend setters have popularised ideal make-up application methods for different occasions and even time of day. For example, lighter hews should be used during day time, and darker tints for night wear. Make-up application is now seemingly becoming a pre-requisite for television appearance and when attending parties. More and more teenagers, adults, and even children now rely on the transforming and enhancing power of cosmetic products, the most basic being lip gloss, lipstick, powder, cheek tint, and eye shadow.
The industry is continuously fuelled by big-time cosmetic manufacturers who are endlessly seeking ways to innovate and enhance the functions of cosmetic products, making the latter more desirable, thus the greater public demand. Thanks to the noble technological advancements and scientific discoveries, cosmetic products are now made easily available in the commercial market.
